Have too ripe an avocado and need it for a recipe, like NOW? Much like bananas, avocados release ethylene gas when ripening, which will in turn ripen other fruits and vegetables around it. Since this process is accelerated by heat, there’s a way to make it happen quickly, in 10 minutes at home.
Covering the entire avocado in tinfoil, as tightly as possible to let no air escape, you have now trapped it within it’s own air. When warmed up, you’re now forcing it to emit ethylene gas to itself, which will cause that accelerated ripening. Put your foil wrapped avocado in the oven at only 200 degrees (F) and check on it after 10 minutes. Both the heat of the oven, and the ethylene gas should create a ripened avocado that simply. Science is on our avocado-loving side.
