When it comes to home-baked goodies, there’s one family member who often gets overlooked – the dog! We wanted to find out exactly what we could make at home with a series of dog treats that with both delight and satisfy your furry best friend. Not to mention, many of these recipes may save you a lot of money by making them at home instead of sourcing an expensive dog treat at the pet store. Try one of these out of your pets and help them feel the love with treats that will make them bark with joy!

1. Oat & Apple Pretzel Dog Treats

With a combination of oat flour, rolled oats, 1 egg and some applesauce, you can create these pretzels for weeks of treats for your pooch in just half an hour!

This recipe is easy to follow, nutritionally sound for your dog, and all around a win. Store in a treat container for ongoing bonus points with your pooch!

2. Sweet Potato Dog Treats

I’ll be honest, I’ve been known to drop a pretty penny on the store-bought version of these and have never thought to actually try making them myself!

So today we can all walk away learning a little more, and hopefully, be saving some money. This recipe is truly as easy as they come, the only part that’s “work” is slicing up some sweet potatoes. The oven will do the rest. The trick with this recipe is to allow your oven enough time to dehydrate the sweet potato into more of a jerky than a roasted potato. Which means you’ll be baking these for a full 6 hours for perfect results. Worth the wait though, Pal.

3. Fresh Breath Treats

Dogs have a tendency to be, well…affectionate! Unfortunately, they also tend to have the worst breath possible. Combining a well-intentioned dog with bad breath and it’s desire to be up close and personal? OOF. You’re about to get hit with a wave of stink breath.

Sneaking in a way to fresher pooch breath is as easy as 1-2-3 with this recipe! Simply made with coconut oil, parsley, mint, and turmeric, these treats can be safely served up once a day!

4. Peanut Butter Bacon Dog Donuts

The family dog will be going hog-wild when you serve up these donuts. Finally, the family pet can participate in the joy of donuts!

Taking some classic favorites of a dog’s diet like peanut butter and bacon, these donuts are made complete with simple ingredients you may already have at home. For the “icing” topping, that’s just some greek yogurt!

5. Fruity Frozen Dog Treats

These treats are perfect in the hotter days of the year when your furry friend will appreciate a cool-down treat as much as the rest of us. The best part is – you can actually eat these too. Sharing is caring!

These strawberry and banana smoothie dog treats are the pawfect treat for your pet. Let the blender do all the work for you, and let freeze to set before popping them out of the molds. Store in the freezer in a ziplock bag for easy treat-ing when you need it!

6. Peanut Butter Apple Pupcake

Some of us (myself included) love to celebrate our special someone on their birthday. The best way to do that? Well, cake, of course!

Don’t let your pal get left out of the joys of birthday cakes! With this recipe, your pooch can have a slice or two, and more to share with their puppy friends.

7. Carrot, Oat & Applesauce Treats For Dogs (and Horses too!)

If you just so casually happen to own a dog AND a horse, well then…are you ever in luck! This recipe is perfect for BOTH!

In just 10 minutes of prep and 20 minutes of baking time, you can have a handmade jar of cookie treats for your favorite furred friend, using simple recipes like oats, applesauce, carrots, and flour. Double the batch and make one for your place and one for a friend! It’s truly a fantastic yet simple recipe.

8. Quick & Easy Frozen Dog Treats For Summer

What an inventive idea to use an ice cube tray as the mold for these perfect summer puppy treats! With just a few ingredients these treats are made in the freezer!

Greek yogurt, banana, peanut butter (sweetener-free to be safe for dogs!) and then poured into ice cube trays with a small milk bone as a handle in each one. Get ready to pounce, because these will go fast!

9. Double Banana Dog Treats
Made with just 3 ingredients you will probably already have on hand, you can make these Banana Banana cookies (yes, double banana!).

Made with oat flour (which you can make easily on your own with oats and a food processor), 3 ripe bananas, and 2 eggs, you can make these paw-print cookies easily with just your thumbprint! How pawsitively creative!

10. Homemade Doggy Cake

No fancy cutting or decorating here, simply baking a cake and cutting it into squares to serve to your beloved pet!

With a blend of carrots, honey, and peanut butter, this cake is sure to be a delight. While some dogs tend to eat everything, others can be picky and turn their noses up to new foods. This one, we’re confident will pass the sniff-test.

11. Beef Stew Training Treats

When you’re in training mode with your dog, you know all too well the importance and the value of treats to encourage them to do their best to listen, and learn!

These beef stew treats will really be a luxury for your pup, with a recipe that you can easily make yourself without having to spend extra money on treats to lure your pet to be on the best behavior. With these, they’ll be begging to impress you for another bite!

12. Safe-For-Dogs Bark Bark

This “chocolate” bark isn’t chocolate at all. It’s actually made with a safe-for-pets ingredient called carob! It’s made from legumes and melts, tastes and works just like chocolate in this recipe, without the toxicity that dogs need to avoid.

Blended with peanut butter, peanuts, honey and mini dog biscuits, this bark is easy to break apart and use as gifts or stored in the fridge for ongoing use. My own pug is quite the fan of this recipe!
